ADOPTION - So, you want to be a foster parent? Get on our Adpotion List for a specific breed or review our available birds currenty in foster homes. Coastal Bend Companion Bird Club & Rescue Mission strives to promote the welfare of all birds. We place displaced, lost, or abandoned companion birds in foster care until permanent adoptive homes can be found. We also provide monetary donations for the rescue and rehabilitation of wild birds. Necessary forms can be found on our files page. Adoption photos of some of our rescues/placements are available.

If you would like to place a bird into our program or add your name to a list of perspective adoptive parents please come by our club during our general meetings or email us. If you decide to place your bird into our program, you will be asked to provide questions regarding the birds history. This adoption service is provided without charge.

Adoption Bylaws

Section II:

a. The board of the CBCBC&RM will review all adoptions prior to the adoption. The board will make a recommendation to the membership for adoption, and the membership will vote whether to approve the adoption.

b. All medical bills will be reimbursed by the adopter to the CBCBC&RM prior to adoption of any bird.

c. The CBCBC&RM shall not charge an adoption fee to an interested party if the member is a club member in good standing. A non-member wishing to adopt will be subject to an adoption application fee (which does not garentee adoption), interested non-members have the choice of paying an adoption application fee or joining the club for a minimum of one year.

d. Birds that are adopted may not be sold or traded.

e. Should the adopter not be able to financially or otherwise care for the adopted bird, it shall be returned to the CBCBC&RM at no charge, and be placed into rescue.

Section III:

a. All persons wishing to adopt a bird will be subject to a home inspection.

b. If the person wishing to adopt a bird is a club member in good standing, the board can vote to forgo the home inspection.

c. A person outside the membership of the club wishing to adopt a bird, will have their home inspected by a board member to ensure that all the birds needs can be met.

d. For a period a one year after the adoption, two annual home inspections may occur.

e. If, during a home inspection, it should be found that said adopted bird not been cared for in the appropriate manner for its species, the CBCBC&RM may make recommendations to ensure the health and well being of the bird.

f. A person wishing to adopt a bird is encouraged to join the CBCBC&RM to further their education as a bird owner.
