HISTORY - In 1983, a group of people from Corpus Christi and the surrounding communities established the Coastal Bend Caged Bird Club. These people wanted to encourage and promote an interest in aviculture. Education by means of sharing experiences knowledge, and wisdom with people of similar interest was the inspiration that led to the formation of the CBCBC.

Professionals and amateurs along with the pet bird owner now had a forum to meet and exchange ideas in a common atmosphere. The person living with one canary owner, the person co-existing with a cockatiel, two parakeets, and a lovebird, and the breeder of the scarlet macaw were now able to exchange ideas and information about a subject that before was at best trial and error. Now they could listen and share with their contemporaries. The could share their experiences and be able to answer or resolve problems, maybe even prevent trouble before it even happens.

During the past twenty years members of the Coastal Bend Bird Clubs have endeavored to put forth every effort to foster a beneficial and harmonious relationship with the surrounding communities. The club has put together donation packages and volunteered assistance on many of the various drives hosted by the local civic and religious organizations. They have visited many of the local hospitals, rest homes, schools, and other community oriented facilities. The members, exhibited birds and presented short seminars on subjects regarding caring for and living with companion birds along with many other bird related subjects. The CBCBC has donated assistance, by means of technical and practical expertise, labor, and money to the city of Corpus Christi, in areas of specifically but not limited to the Aquarium, the Botanical Gardens, and the C.C. Zoo.

The Coastal Bend Caged Bird Club has mentored aviculture in the coastal bend area. The CBCBC is an affiliated member of the American Federation of Aviculture. The club has hosted numerous speakers from universities and avian associations from around the country in an effort to bring the coastal bend up to speed on new ideas in the avian world. Along these lines, the CBCBC has donated funds to various programs like the Schubot Center of Texas A&M University, to help fund programs targeted at preventing the loss of several species of birds that are facing the danger of, or are on the edge of near extinction.

In 2004 the two bird clubs of the Coastal Bend area joined together to make one effective and resourceful bird club. Making us, The Coastal Bend Companion Bird Club and Rescue Mission. We seek to promote an interest in companion birds through communication with and education of pet owners, breeders and the general public. In addition, the CBCBC&RM strives to promote the welfare of all birds by providing monetary donations for the rescue and rehabilitation of wild birds and by placing displaced, lost, abandoned or abused companion birds in foster care until permanent adoptive homes can be found.

In 2005 CBCBC&RM put out a helping hand to the forgotten victims of the Katrina disaster by donating $300 to the AFA disaster relief fund, and $500 to the 911 Parrot Alert group who were working very hard to rescue and revive those birds and animals victimized by Katrina. We hope that all of these creatures are able to find their owners once again. We also would like to thank all those who spent their time rescuing and reviving those birds and other animals.

The members of the CBCBC&RM would like to thank you for visiting our website. If your found this interesting, we encourage you to show your support by joining a national bird association and/or become a member of your local bird club
